Application Requirements and Procedures
1. I want to apply for D/MSW, what are the documentary requirements?
More information about the application procedure, documentary requirements, and fees are available at http://our.upou.edu.ph/
2. Are there any program-specific requirements for the Social Work program?
For Master of Social Work, prospective applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or they must be a graduate of the Diploma in Social Work program. A GWA of 2.0 or better from the previous degree is also a requirement for the Master’s program. However, those with GWA lower than 2.0 may still apply but will be given probationary status. This status will be cleared once they achieve a grade of 2.0 or better in the first 12 units of their MSW studies.
Interested applicants with a degree other than social work may also apply first to the Diploma in Social Work and can opt to proceed to MSW. There are no grade requirements for DSW, however, should students wish to continue to MSW, they must have a GWA of 2.0 or better upon graduation from DSW.
3. Will I be able to secure a professional license after graduating from DSW?
According to Republic Act No. 4373 and 10847, in order to be permitted to take the licensure examination for social workers by the Professional Regulation Commission, an applicant must have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Social Work.
What we suggest for graduate students of DSW is to proceed to MSW to be qualified to take the licensure examination for social workers. (Please refer to FAQ # 4 for the list of additional courses to take)
8. The list of additional courses for those coming from DSW indicated an additional 1,000 hours of supervised fieldwork. Who will need to take these courses?
Those who have Bachelor’s degree other than social work, entered UPOU as DSW students and continued to MSW, have to have 1000 hours of supervised fieldwork necessary to take the licensure examination as required by the Republic Act 4373 and RA 10847.
9. How will I know if I am admitted to the program?
You will be notified by the Office of the University Registrar
10. How many semesters are there in an academic year?
Social Work is offered for two semesters per academic year. There will be no mid-year enrollment or classes for the program.
11. Do you accept applications for admission submitted for the 2nd semester?
Yes, application for admission is facilitated and accepted every semester. Applicants are advised to follow the deadline for submission of requirements which is seen in the academic calendar available at upou.edu.ph.
